David Edward Outlaw was born 1792 in Bertie County, North Carolina, married Mourning Cobb about 1820, moved his family to Haywood County, Tennessee during 1833. David was the son of Major Lewis Outlaw and Mary of Chowan County, NC. David died 4 December 1851 in Haywood County and is buried in the Zion Baptist Church Cemetery near Brownsville. David and Mourning's children were Edwin R. (2 May 1821 Bertie County - 20 Feb 1879 Blooming Grove, Navarro County, Texas), Anne Rebecca (1827 Bertie County - 1862 Brownsville, Haywood County, Tennessee), Lewis Bolaver (20 September 1829 Bertie County - 5 Oct 1907 Blooming Grove, Navarro County, Texas), and David Ed. (born-Nov 1834 Brownsville, Haywood County, Tennessee -- died-16 April 1918 Austin, Travis County, Texas).
Anne Rebecca married Newton Jasper Stewart and remained in Haywood County, Tennessee. Sons Edwin, Lewis B., and David Ed. moved to Bastrop County, Texas, obstensively on their way to the gold fields in California but remained in Texas. Edwin was almost blind, lived with his brother Lewis' family and never married. Lewis married Henrietta Virginia House 29 November 1860 in Bastrop County, Texas, moved to Navarro County, Texas where he farmed. David married Sarah Elizabeth Erwin on 3 December 1857 in Bastrop County, Texas and remained in the area, except for his time in the Confederate States Army and his declining years in the Confederate Home in Austin. David is buried in the Confederate Veterans' section of the State Cemetery in Austin.
